Do androids dream of electric bikes

Personal

My goal is going to be swapping as many trips in my vehicle to an electric bike. I am excited about that for many reasons. I think it will be good for my health, good for reducing my carbon output, and allowing me to more intentionally experience the areas I pass by on my travels.

I will fully admit that going for an e-bike was a bit impulsive for me, at least by my standards. I did plenty of research and picked something that was not terribly expensive and will fit the use cases I need. I went with the Lectric XPeak2 after I found a used one that was available. But once I made the decision I went ahead and got it. I wanted to maximize as much riding in the summer as possible.

Part of what spurred me to get an e-bike, other than outrageous gas prices, is actually that I have been riding my bicycle much more lately. I also have a 1996 Marin Larkspur hybrid bike that was a hand-me-down gift from my dad. I’ve had it for years but I hadn’t been riding much since I changed my career field from restaurants to programming. But last fall and this spring, I have worked to get it tuned up and I have been enjoying riding it a bunch.

There is a simple fact though, I am getting older and that bike is really only good on streets and bike paths. It can handle a tiny bit of off-road but that would be in an emergency only. And realistically, that this time in my life, riding for more than a half hour with all the hills in my area is not rewarding for me. I should get pushing and get in better shape, but I would also like the option to extend my rides, be able to handle various terrains, and legitimately have an option for vehicle replacement.

Looking forward to the open roads, hope to see you out there!
